“I hope that you give me the opportunity to help you reach your highest potential and to utilize the gifts that were given to you.”
— Tom Heroldt
“For I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not harm you, to give you hope and a future.”
— Jeremiah 29:11
A path built on learning, teaching, and serving the community
Undergraduate education grounding Tom in philosophy, ethics, and the humanities — a foundation that still informs his whole-person approach to counseling.
Before entering the counseling field, Tom spent three years as a teacher — deepening his understanding of how people learn, grow, and respond to guidance.
Tom earned his CADC certification, specializing in addiction treatment — drugs, alcohol, and behavioral addictions. This credential reflects his commitment to meeting clients where they are, without judgment.
Tom completed his graduate training in Mental Health Counseling at Roosevelt University, earning his Illinois Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) designation. He later returned to Roosevelt as adjunct faculty, teaching graduate-level counseling courses to the next generation of therapists.
Three principles that guide every session
"Building a strong, confident relationship with my clients is the first goal of any successful counseling session." Everything else — techniques, frameworks, insights — flows from that trust.
"I bring compassion and caring to every session — and sometimes humor, as a way to engage my clients and earn their confidence." Healing doesn't have to be heavy all the time.
"Life can be hard, full of excitement and disappointment. I help you create balance across all areas of your life." Tom addresses mental, emotional, relational, and spiritual wellbeing together.
